Hey, look! It's 2008. How lovely. And now: How I Spent My Christmas Vacation.

Our office is lame and is open Dec 26-28, so the us vaguely receptionist types take turns holding down the fort. This year was my turn so I stayed in DC for Christmas. Being in the office was actually kind of fun. I always like getting to be alone and of the usually 15 or so people on my floor only around 5 worked those days. So I was able to get a lot of tidying and stuff done that I can't really do when people are there, and I got to play my music slightly louder than usual.  Christmas day itself was lovely. My choir sang in the morning Mass and it was hands down the smallest Christmas congregation I've ever seen. But it made the day relaxed and fun. Then I went home and ate my body weight in cinnamon rolls and veggies and watched The Lord of the Rings. I think Jesus would approve.  My parents drove up on the 27th for a visit, so we did the gift exchange then.  My siblings know me very well, so I got lots of fabulous gifts and reportedly what I got for everyone went over very well, so go me!  Daddy's favorite artist is Turner and there was an exhibit about him at the National Gallery, so we all trooped down to the Mall to check it out. It was really interesting with pieces spanning his whole career. Daddy proclaimed the film about Turner his favorite part of the exhibit, which is...typical. We had a really fabulous time. Later, [personal profile] bookwench, [personal profile] flyingcarpet and I took my mother to Ikea for the first time.  I'm not really crazy about Ikea but I like hanging out with all three of those people so it was worth it. And Mama got have the Ikea experience. Good times, man. The rest of the week was basically finger foods and football. Auburn managed to win (yay!) and I have tentatively high hopes for next season. Their new offensive coordinator's philosophy is that scoring lots of points is good which I can sort of get behind.  I didn't manage to stay up for the entire Georgia game but I tried to pull my weight mocking Hawaii while I was awake and I'm appropriately indignant over the "press coverage" or what have you. I have very little sympathy for "poor little Hawaii" and their complete inability to compete against a better team.  Frankly, I think it's a little cruel on the part of the BCS to make even the best WAC team compete against any SEC team.  *shrugs* It's possible I'm biased but that doesn't mean I'm wrong.
So the holidays were lovely. December was an especially busy month this year so the break was nice and it looks like it'll be a calm January  (*knock on wood*).
