Memememememe
Feb. 18th, 2009 09:42 amAccording to
thursdays_son there's "this meme where you ask folks for five things they associate with you and you pontificate on those things." So! As given to me by the aforementioned:
1.Auburn: My father was born in Auburn, AL and my parents met at the university. According to my grandfather they met at a riot, but my mother claims that's an exaggeration. They met at an anti-war rally, which since there was a curfew was reportedly rather tame. Regardless, as anyone from South will tell you all of this makes pulling for the Auburn football team SRS BIZNIS. My mother's parents also have always pulled for Auburn, for reasons I've never been entirely clear on. I was not really a huge football fan for most of my childhood but when I went to college, the gene kicked in and I suddenly found myself watching games and buying orange and blue clothing.
2. Mismatched socks: MISMATCHED SOCKS! There are two reasons for the mismatched socks. I REALLY hate folding laundry. It is one of my least favorite chores. So my concession to myself is that, yes I DO have to fold laudry like an adult but I DON'T have to mess with pairing up my socks. I have a sock drawer and they all just get thrown in there in a heap. The other reason is that when I was working on the Wig crew full time I spent most of my time in black clothing (for great backstage ninja justice). I got tired of always being in black so I went out and bought a bunch of multi-colored, patterned socks. You know, to add a dash of spice to my wardrobe. The lack of pairing still holds true, but now the mismatchedness is a bit more exciting.
3. The Beatles: The Beatles have been my one true love for quite some time now. As a youngling, I was not a New Kids on the Block fan. It was partly that I resent being told what to like by the masses and partly that my older brother disliked them. (Apparently one person can tell me what to like, just not 20.) But boybands are a psychologically necessary part of a young girls development so The Beatles sort of became my boyband. I won't get into my pathological obsession with John Lennon here. That's a story for another meme. But there really is so much to love about them and what they created so even though I outgrew the boyband thing, I never outgrew them. They are still my Very Favorite Band.
4. Labyrinth: Um. I really like it? It WAS one of those definitive childhood movies. I identified to a rather embarrassing degree with the Jennifer Connelly character and I'm pretty sure my love for both David Bowie and knee-high boots can be traced to this movie. For that matter my love of big hair, both male and female can ALSO be traced to this movie. It's also further proof that the fantasy thing started pretty early. Because dude, goblins are awesome.
5. Emily the Strange: I think Emily the Strange is SO MUCH FUN. I agree that cats tend to be the best companions. My Emily icon is also the first icon I got. I like having an icon that's related to my name. Especially because she looks so bossy.
So, hey. If you feel like getting 5 things from me, drop a line here!
