Yet Another Unpleasant Rite of Adulthood

There are days when I feel very grown-up indeed. And then there are days when the Universe kicks me in the shins, says, "Grown-up? HA!" then points and laughs. I had my very first car breakdown yesterday. Well, not my VERY first, but the first where I wasn't in Athens ten minutes away from my house. No, I broke down on I-85 just outside of Opelika, AL on my way back to Montgomery (for those not from lower Alabama, Opelika is about an hour northeast of Montgomery). I must say, I did pretty well. When noticed something was not quite right, I pulled over, freaked out slightly, then pulled out my Triple A card and got myself a tow truck. My father had been very insistent that I get that Triple A membership before I moved. My father is alway certain that all of our vehicles are on the verge of collapse and I guess I can't mock him too much, since in this case his neverending nay-saying came in handy. Surprisingly enough, the truck actually towed my car all the way back to Montgomery, which was nice because I didn't particularly want to wait on the side of the road for the hour it would take my roommate to get there.
Well, the verdict came in this morning. The motor has to be replaced. My parents have decreed that it's not worth it and I'm buying a new car. Which is great except for the fact that I have to buy a new car. I'm pretty good with dealing with change and such, but it's pretty nervewracking to have everything under control and then suddenly have to oh, buy a new car. I think I'm mostly just a little upset that it's kind of my fault the engine committed hari-kari. My mother can go on all she wants about "learning experiences" but it's still frustrating. At least my dad didn't yell.

P.S. Bookwench ladies, I don't think I'll be able to come to the Halloween Gala for reasons that should at this point be a little obvious. TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES!!!!!!!!!
